Many of our clients come to us and they have no idea how SEO is done or how to begin to optimize their website for search engines. We explain that Google, and other search engines, want to return search results that do the best job possible to satisfy the intent of the person’s search query. If Google returns results that are of poor quality, then the searcher will no longer use their search engine. Unique, Quality Content

Text, images and video should provide rich information about the searcher’s subject and strive to fully answer their questions. The content should have properly structured heading that make it clear what the content is about.

Meta Tags

The meta page title and page description should describe what the main points of the page are, be the proper length,and be constructed to entice clicks on your indexed page.

Image Alt tags

The alt tag tells Google what the image is about and further helps enrich your content. The image alt tags are also used by readers for the blind.

Fast Loading Website

No one, including Google, likes a slow website. If your website loads slowly it will not rank well. Factors that affect website loading speed include, but are not limited to: hosting, image optimization, caching, and coding. Check to see how fast your website is loading.

Mobile Friendly Website

A mobile friendly website is a website that display correctly on mobile devices such as tablets and phones. Google ranks mobile friendly website higher than website that are not mobile friendly. Check to see if your website is mobile friendly.

HTTPS Protocol

If you have an SSL certificate installed on your server and it is properly applied to your website you are using the HTTPS protocol for your website (ex. https://example.com) The browsers are evolving in how they will show this in the url line, but currently if you are not using HTTPS the website is showing up as Not Secure. You need to check to make sure that all pages in your website are using HTTPS. Google ranks HTTPS web-pages higher than web-pages that are using HTTP.

Urls

Your web-page url should be under 60 characters long while making it clear what the page is about. This is a good place to use main keywords.

Linking

Internal linking structure includes linking to additional content within your website to offer more information about a particular subject. Human visitors can follow these links to learn more about your expertise on a subject. Google’s search bots follow the links and it helps them discover more pages on your website.

External follow links from quality websites to your website are considered votes of confidence for the quality and value of your website’s content. It also helps Google discover your website’s content.
